The Champlain Valley region of Vermont extends from the Canadian border to roughly Fairhaven and is obviously named for it's proximity to Lake Champlain. Some of Vermonts largest farms are located in the Champlain Valley due to it's fertile soils, gentle topography and milder climate. The growing season is much longer due to the climatic influence of Lake Champlain. The Champlain Valley is the most populated region of Vermont with Burlington, Middlebury and Rutland being the largest population centers.
